RISAFloor 12.0.5: The Integrated Solution for Floor System & Foundation Design
RISAFloor 12.0.5 is a specialized structural engineering software application within the RISA suite, focused on the design of floor systems and foundations for buildings. It works seamlessly with RISA-3D to provide an efficient workflow where the gravity load-carrying system (floors, beams, columns, footings) can be modeled, analyzed, and designed independently or as part of a complete 3D building model, ensuring accuracy in load tracking and distribution.
Core Function: Efficient Gravity System Design & Load Path Tracking
The software’s primary function is to model the floor system (typically composite steel beams and metal deck or concrete slabs) to accurately calculate load distributions to supporting beams, columns, and ultimately, foundations. It automates the tedious process of manually calculating tributary areas, live load reductions, and load combinations, ensuring all gravity loads are properly traced through the structure.
Key Design & Analysis Capabilities:
1. Floor System Modeling & Load Analysis
-
Automatic Load Distribution: Models floor slabs and decks (one-way or two-way) to automatically calculate and apply line loads and point loads to supporting members based on realistic load paths, not just simple tributary areas.
-
Live Load Reduction & Patterning: Automatically applies code-based live load reductions (ASCE 7) and performs live load patterning to find maximum demands on members.
-
Composite Beam & Deck Design: Designs composite steel beams with concrete slabs and metal deck, checking strength and deflection per AISC 360 and the Steel Deck Institute (SDI) manual.
2. Foundation Design & Integration
-
Spread & Continuous Footing Design: Sizes concrete footings based on column loads from the model, checking for bearing and punching shear per ACI 318.
-
Mat Foundation Design: Includes tools for modeling and designing mat foundations.
3. Seamless Workflow with RISA-3D
-
Bidirectional Integration: A key strength. The floor and foundation model built in RISAFloor can be directly imported into RISA-3D for lateral system design and combined gravity/lateral analysis. Member sizes designed in RISA-3D can be updated back in the RISAFloor model.
-
Unified Load Tracking: Ensures that all gravity loads from the floors are accurately transferred to the lateral system model.
4. Design Reports & Drawings
-
Code-Compliant Design Reports: Generates detailed calculation summaries for beams, columns, and footings.
-
Plan Drawing Generation: Can create annotated floor framing plans and foundation plans.
