Prometech ParticleWorks 8.1 is a meshless CFD software based on the Moving Particle Simulation (MPS) method. It eliminates mesh generation to simulate complex liquid behavior with large free-surface deformation.

Key New Features in Version 8.1

Advanced Two-Phase Flow & Air Solver
A new two-way coupled two-phase flow model (MPS-MPS) enables realistic simulation of gas-liquid interactions, crucial for scenarios like gearbox lubrication where air influences oil behavior . A Space Fill tool simplifies gas phase initialization by directly filling closed volumes with particles, eliminating the need for filling planes and accelerating setup for intricate geometries . A pressure-explicit method is also available as a beta feature .

FVM Thermal Solver & CHT Enhancements
The Finite Volume Method (FVM) solver gains a Thermal Solver, enabling computation of temperature fields in air volumes. This allows simultaneous heat transfer analysis between the FVM grid (gas), CHT grid (solid), and MPS particles (liquid) . Conjugate Heat Transfer (CHT) analysis now supports different-sized grids for each body, applying higher resolution to complex shapes .

Multi-Resolution (MR) Capabilities
Users can refine particle size and grid resolution in specific regions while maintaining coarser resolutions elsewhere, balancing accuracy with computational cost. High-resolution regions are defined via Box Region (rectangular) or File Region (custom STL shape) . A Custom Grid Interval feature allows varying grid resolutions for different elements, yielding significant memory savings (tenfold reduction demonstrated compared to uniform grids) .

Enhanced Mapping & Post-Processing
New mapping outputs include Wetting Time and Film Thickness, valuable for evaluating cleaning performance (e.g., dishwashers), verifying lubricant application, and assessing cooling efficiency . A statistics.csv file provides average HTC, total map area, wetted area, and average wetting time .

Multi-Physics & GPU Acceleration
Rigid Body Motion now supports 6-DOF simulation for complex fluid-structure interaction . CFD-DEM interaction is enhanced with new models . Aeration analysis gains multi-GPU support and a Light Weight Mode for faster computation . RecurDyn co-simulation with FFlex bodies now supports multi-GPU, accelerating flexibility analysis .

Core Capabilities

ParticleWorks is used across automotive, machinery, food, chemical, biomedical, and civil engineering industries for simulations including powertrain oil behavior, vehicle wading, mixing, debris flow, and tsunami runup .
