RockWorks 2026: Geological Data Management, Analysis & Visualization Software

RockWorks 2026 is the latest version of RockWare’s comprehensive geological software suite for subsurface data management, analysis, and 3D visualization. This release focuses on workflow consolidation, multi-threaded performance optimization, and enhanced automation capabilities .

Key New Features in RockWorks 2026

Contour Setting Consolidation

Contour and color-fill settings have been merged into a single configuration. 2D and 3D grid maps created from the same menu now share unified settings instead of separate configurations. When opening older projects, RockWorks automatically detects and updates the project INI file and playlists, with backup files saved in a Backup folder .

Fault Setting Consolidation

All fault-related settings (used for grids, solid models, and 2D/3D maps) are now integrated into a single unified “Faulting” tab located at the top of applicable menus, making fault management more convenient and consistent across the application .

Multi-Threaded Performance Optimization

High-level modeling programs have been optimized for multi-core processors. Users can specify the number of processors in preferences to enhance performance. Operations including Kriging modeling, residual statistics, and more now support parallel processing for significantly faster execution .

New Radial Basis Function (RBF) Modeling

New 2D and 3D interpolation methods for modeling complex, continuous geological bodies such as contaminant plumes .

GeoTIFF Export

Grid export now supports GeoTIFF format, preserving grid values, spatial extents, NoData values, and coordinate system information for seamless use in GIS applications like ArcGIS Pro .

Nested Playlists (Advanced Edition)

Advanced users can now call one playlist from another, breaking large automation tasks into reusable components while retaining the parent playlist’s state and detecting recursive calls .

Easement Filter (ModOps Tool)

New ModOps tool to remove or isolate materials within restricted corridors (power lines, pipelines, roads) .

Improved Playlist Automation

Continued optimization of the Playlist Manager for one-click execution of complex “import-to-model” workflows. New Recent Playlist history and improved full-screen display .

Fault Gap Option

New option to define the gap (in project units) between contour line segments and nearby fault segments .

Documentation Generator Enhancements

The Documentation Generator now supports HTML and PDF output, flexible title placement, image scaling, and options to embed or hyperlink to non-image files .

Important Backward Compatibility Note

Graphic File Compatibility: Due to enhancements in RockPlot2D and RockPlot3D, the RW2D and RW3D file formats have changed slightly. Files created in RockWorks 2026 may not open in RockWorks 2020 through 2025. Conversely, files created in 2020-2025 should open correctly in 2026 .
