Emerson PipelineStudio 5.6: Pipeline Simulation & Modeling Software
Emerson PipelineStudio 5.4 is a significant update to the pipeline simulation software, introducing new fluid support, the GERG 2008 equation of state, and simulation stability improvements for the energy transition era.
Key New Features in Version 5.6
Based on Emerson’s official release notice, the main enhancements in this version are:
-
GERG 2008 Equation of State: Introduces the much-requested native implementation of the GERG 2008 EOS. This allows users to determine product blends at mixing nodes and recompute hydraulic variables with a fully-featured model.
-
Energy Transition Fluids: Adds new fluid tables for Ammonia and Hydrogen, along with a new anthropogenic carbon dioxide viscosity correlation to support emerging energy projects.
-
“Load and Lock” Starting State: You can now save a simulation state (from an interactive session or a compatible PipelineManager live state) to initialize future simulations. You can also configure simulations to pause at a specific time or after a predetermined duration.
-
Improved Thermal Stability: Enhanced thermal modeling for challenging fluids, including enriched natural gas, pure hydrogen, and carbon dioxide.
-
Join Pipes: In addition to splitting pipes, you can now rejoin pipes that share the same properties.
-
Enhanced Reporting: Reports are managed through a secure repository accessible only to authorized users. Reporting time configurations now support specific date and time instead of only relative time.
Core Capabilities Overview
PipelineStudio is a complete engineering tool for steady-state and transient analysis of liquid and gas pipeline networks. Key capabilities include:
| Feature Category | Key Capabilities |
|---|---|
| Simulation | Steady-state and transient analysis, run interactively or in “quick mode” for leak detection, surge analysis, and survival time studies. |
| Fluids & Equipment | Multiple equations of state and friction correlations; detailed models for pipes, valves, compressors, pumps, heaters, and coolers. |
| Operational Planning | Batch tracking, line pack management, fuel consumption calculation, and capacity/performance evaluation. |
| Integration & Reporting | Shares simulation technology with PipelineManager to initialize models with live states; secure report repository with date/time configuration. |
