FVA-Workbench 11.0.0 is a major release from FVA GmbH, It introduces five significant new calculation modules for transmission system design, along with a completely revised licensing mechanism.

Key New Features in Version 11.0

Rotating Rainflow Calculation

A new module that incorporates rotating rainflow matrices and synthesizes pseudo stress-time histories at local evaluation points. Unlike using dedicated load cases, this method accounts for load cycles resulting from shifting operations and their contribution to damage accumulation, enabling more realistic fatigue life assessment.

Gear Skiving (Wälzschälen)

The manufacturing processes for cylindrical gear profile generation have been extended with a new tool type, the “skiving cutter.” Gear skiving is a high-performance continuous generating process for internal and external gear teeth, based on crossed helical gear kinematics. Based on skiving-generated gear geometries, standard flank and root load capacities as well as 3D contact analysis can be calculated.

Universal Local Friction Model

Developed within the FVA 998 research project series in collaboration with the Chair of Machine Elements, Gears and Tribology (MEGT) at RPTU, this physics-based, spatially resolved contact friction model enables more accurate prediction of load-dependent power losses in rolling bearings and provides deeper insight into contact conditions and potential damage mechanisms.

Planet Gear Plain Bearing Calculation (COMBROS PG)

A new module specialized for planet gear plain bearings, particularly for wind turbine applications. The model consists of a stationary pin with internal oil supply and a rotating planet gear on the outside. It is based on an efficient thermo-elasto-hydrodynamic approach, validated theoretically and experimentally by the ITR at TU Clausthal. The COMBROS PG-FEM variant accounts for elastic deformation of planet pins and gears using FE models.

Overall System Rolling Analysis

A new module for mesh-position-dependent analysis of gear systems with multiple meshes, such as planetary gearboxes. It sequentially calculates load and deformation distributions for different rolling positions while accounting for mesh-dependent gear stiffness, and displays load sharing in planetary gears, transmission error of individual stages, and overall transmission error.
